National Assembly on School-Based Health Care

Victory for SBHCs in Congress

See 2006-07 Annual Report

in early October, President Bush signed the Health Care Safety Net Act of 2008, which reauthorizes the Community Health Center Program. The legislation includes a provision requiring the General Accountability Office (GAO) to “issue a study of the economic costs and benefits of SBHCs and the impact on the health of students of these centers.”

Less than two years ago, the SBHC authorization bills (S. 600 and H.R. 4230) were introduced into Congress. Within this time we have made remarkable advances. Thanks to your emails, phone calls, visits to Capitol Hill, and site visits at local SBHCs, Congress made sure SBHCs didn’t get left behind.
